On 18 February 2024, we can read a public alert issued by the US Embassy in Algiers, quote,

Dear U.S. citizens in Algeria:

This is a security alert for increased risk of kidnapping of Western nationals.
Location: Near Camps in Tindouf, Algeria

Event:   the planned marathon on February 28, 2024.

Actions to take:

Avoid the area through March 15.
Be aware of your surroundings.
Stay alert in locations frequented by tourists/Westerners.
Make contingency plans to leave.
Review your personal security plans.
Have travel documents up to date and easily accessible.
Carry proper identification, including a U.S. passport with a current visa.

The disturbing statement is of serious importance and speaks load.

In the meantime, it   a rather sad reality on the African ground and in the Tindouf Zouerat in particular.

Rogue states deliberately  incite a state of permanent insecurity as it is their working capital warranting their survival.

It is an outrageous fact that the security situation in this
Instable zone has deteriorated further, prompting multiple attacks against civilian visitors and even against Mauritanean  head of State, a target of an assassination plot crually orchestrated by elements of Algeran defence and security forces and their subordinates, the Polisario militia.

That tells load about the level of insecurity and delinquencies existing in this unruly no man's land, left all sorts of illegal trafficking. Tindouf Zouerate is in no way a new economic development zone as it is sold to the world but rather a dangerous crossroad of death in the middle of nowhere. This has become a common concern for the whole international community. The USA and Europe have expressed a clear warning position on the subject these few days back. The situation is alarming and criminal acts spiraling and reaching a new height of extreme violence. The International visitors are warned, their very life is at stake in Tindouf.
